Story:
Prelate Daanis watched from the shadows as the glow of Artanis' engine faded in the night sky, eventually being enveloped by the countless stars above. After a moment, he knew he was alone. Truly and utterly alone, on the face of a world that, while friendly, was not his home. Shakuras would never replace Aiur. Most of the Sargas Tribe was crippled, or dead, like all the Protoss, but it was the Akilae Tribe, once the most numerous, that had suffered the greatest losses. It was they who had valiantly remained behind with Fenix and Raynor to ensure the escape.
"Are they gone?" Selthain stepped from the shadows behind Daanis, and the Prelate was only startled for a moment before he remebered that the Dark Templar had no connection with the Khala, and he could not feel their minds as he did his brethren.
Daanis' eyes remained fixed. on the sky. "Yes."
"And he has left it to you?"
Daanis shrugged. "He trusts me, Selthain."
"We've a great deal of work ahead of us."
Daanis closed his eyes. "Some things are unavoidable."
The brightly lit halls of the Citadel of New Antioch brought no comfort to Templar Keldan, who sat in quiet thought, brooding over the reports he'd recieved from the Khalai responsible for building his ships. Nothing. Or close to it. That's what he was being told.
"You look troubled, Templar." Taiandus cocked his head to one side, watching Keldan with some interest.
Keldan glared at him. "We have nothing. We can DO nothing but sit here and wait for the Zerg to return, and then what, my Judicator friend?"
Taiandus looked cofused. "Then you haven't heard yet."
Keldan's interest was peaked. "Heard what?"
"Artanis has ordered that Prelate Daanis oversee the reconstruction of the fleet and a new expedition to Aiur. And you are to lead our starfleets, Keldan." Keldan's eyes shone a deep blue. He would have his chance after all.
"Get back! Get them the hell back!" Derek Caden shouted over the roar of the flames. The swarms were mounting another attack on their improvised base on the frozen surface of Braxis. Derek was reasonably certain that they had no way of getting off Braxis alone, but held out, not knowing the dismal fate of the rest of DuGalle's fleet. He had no way of knowing that even if Earth Command did know that he and his men had crashed on Braxis, that no one would be able to help.
The stage is set. Kerrigan's swarms lay silent, waiting. Now is their chance, perhaps there last chance. It is time for the Protoss to return home.
Heroes:
Prelate Daanis:
The Prelate of the Sargas Tribe, the elite of the Protoss warriors, is only barely older than Artanis, at 293 years. While Artanis left to go to find Zeratul and perhaps Raynor, Daanis was chosen to take his place. Daanis is somewhat detached, some have even accused him of being cold, although those who say such things have never seen him in battle. Daanis is practical, and that often makes him seem uncaring. Nothing could be further from the truth, however; Daanis stood and fought beside Tassadar on Char and in the Terran sector during the initial stages of the Zerg invasion, and holds many of his old master's beliefs.
Templar Keldan:
Keldan has seen a great many things in his 512 years, and recently, most of them have not been pleasurable. Keldan is one of the Fleet Commanders of the Auriga Tribe, and commands the Protoss' most powerful remaining ship--the Andaranus. Clear and focused at all times, Keldan is single-minded of purpose and driven in battle. However, before the invasion, he held the rank of Protector of the Conclave, and was among those who fought against Tassadar on Aiur. He still burns over the murder of Aldaris, and although he accepts the alliance with the Dark Templar, he holds no fondness for them.
Selthain:
Selthain and Daanis have a history together--Selthain was one of Zeratul's followers, and the two fought side by side agains the Overmind. Selthain is cunning, ruthless, but not without remorse. He sees the dire situation in which the Protoss now find themselves, and is willing to do anything--ANYTHING--to prevent the destruction of his people.
Nalg'has:
A younger Templar, distantly related to Keldan, Nalg'has distinguished himself during the battles to defend Shakuras and proved among the most capable pilots in the fleet. He is incredibly young, not yet even 200 years, and burns with idealistic zeal. He believes that it is not only the right fo the Protoss to retake their homeland, but their destiny. And he believes that he can lead his people home.
Judicator Taiandus:
Taiandus was nothing more than a scribe during his time as a young Judicator of the Ara tribe on Aiur, but with the death of the Conclave and the murder of Aldaris, this lowly Judicator has taken it upon himself to take up the reigns and act as his predecessors would have. He acts as an advisor to both Keldan and Daanis, and both find his open-mindedness and obediance to be most agreeable. Unlike the Conclave, Taiandus sees himself as an advisor in times of war--not an overseer.
Colonel Derek Caden:
Colonel Caden has often been referred to as unreliable, pigheaded, and undisciplined. The very fact that he managed to attain the rank of Colonel and find a command post on DuGalle's elite strike force is a testament to both his skill and persuasiveness. Able to pilot both a Goliath Walker and a Wraith Starfighter with unequalled skill, Derek is also well-liked by the common soldiery for his leniance and attention to detail.
Brigadier General Nicolai Ivanov:
One of the many Generals appointed in command of the UED ground offensives, Ivanov is a mediocre strategist but an incredible officer, with a good sense of discipline and an ability to keep his men where they need to be. While this was ideal during DuGalle's campaign, the death of the Admiral has a left a wide tactical gap that Ivanov is simply not fit to fill. And being stranded on Braxis, surrounded by Zerg, isn't helping matters any.
